Tesla reached an agreement with Panasonic on the production of solar cells for electric vehicles

American manufacturer of electric company Tesla Motors and Japanese electronics maker Panasonic have reached an agreement on cooperation for the production of solar cells. This is stated in the published report Tesla Motors.

Under this agreement, the parties will cooperate in the production of photovoltaic (PV) components for solar cells and modules at a plant in Buffalo, New York as early as 2017. Here Tesla plans to take a long-term commitment to purchase from Panasonic this product.

The exact timing of the start of production will be determined after Tesla shareholders will decide on the acquisition of the company SolarCity, which is engaged in the development of solar energy systems. It is expected that PV-components will operate in a single system with lithium-ion batteries and a Tesla Powerwall Tesla Powerpack.

As noted in the press release, the new agreement extends the already established cooperation between Tesla and Panasonic, which two years ago agreed on joint production of lithium-ion batteries on the opened at the end of July "Gigafabrike 1" Tesla in Nevada.
